Welcome !

Every Cambodian of the older generation knows about Puth Tomneay. 'Tomneay' means 'prediction' and Puth means 'Buddha' but it is also a person's name. Whether Puth Tomneay was Buddha's or a layman's prediction, it was strangely accurate. It said that one day Cambodia would go through upheavals and horrors unknown to its people up to then. Blood would flow profusely and reach an elephant's belly. People would starve and run after a grain of rice when they saw one stuck on a dog's tail. Houses would be inhabited, streets deserted. Everybody would be wise to grow "Dumb" trees -Kapok trees, in Khmer 'Doeum Kor' meaning ' dumb' or 'mute' - around their places. Things would be upside down: broken glass would float, nourishing gourds would sink, the old would humble themselves before the young. It would be a time of untold miseries run by the Thmil -the infidels.

It was what happened during the Khmer Rouge. Every single details turned out as they were predicted -the deportation, the bloodshed, the starvation, the terror, the religious persecution and what nobody could have foreseen, the supremacy of the uneducated. But one day, we were told, peace and prosperity would return to our land. Cambodia would be saved by the fith Buddha 'Seametrey'.

As for us, Seametrey is three values by which Cambodia could be saved :

Se-rey pheap (Freedom as opposed to fear)

A-rey thor (Civilisation as opposed to barbarism)

Metrey- pheap (Love as opposed to selfishness and hatred)

Salvation is within us all.
