In today's world, competition is fierce and education has become more than ever a passport to a better future. Education is a basic human right, so we are told. It should be that way but as long as a good many are left out it remains a privilege. When talking about education, quality matters as much as quantity, if not more. Seametrey’s aim is to make quality education accessible to the less fortunate. In doing so, I have no other ambition than to help my country get out of this vicious cycle of poverty-poor education-poverty. It is also a way to return what I own to society and to honor the memory of my parents and brother who died during the Pol Pot regime and had not have the time to see how far their offsprings have gone.

I come from an extremely poor background. Thanks to my parents, their sacrifice and their insight, not only I have made my way in this world but I have raised four children and given them the opportunity to achieve their full potential. When I see our local children here, I can’t help thinking ‘Among them there may be a scientist, an artist, a philosopher and if not they could be skilled workers or competent civil servants.’ What a waste for Cambodia and when one thinks of every country in the world where this happens, what a waste for humanity!

At Seametrey Children's Village we practice cultural and social integration. Parents pay according to their income. Expatriate parents pay full fees. Those Khmer parents who can afford pay 50% and those who cannot contribute whatever they can in cash or in kind. Our aim is to bring rich and poor together so that the children get to know and appreciate each other. We believe social discrimination at school leads to a fractured society. If we don't bring them together when they are young how could they live together when they grow up?

Seametrey Children’s Village is a school with a difference. “Tevong Komar”, the boat library, is a project with a difference. I hope you will support us to make this world a better place for all.
